Lucy Bronze x ALIGNE

Co-creating Lucy Bronze x ALIGNE collection 001 for AW25 with Lucy Bronze MBE marks the start of a new year-long partnership. From the Women’s Rugby initiatives to the Wales Women’s football team and Gotham FC, we’re determined to amplify the visibility and voices of female athletes. So, when the England and Chelsea footballer and long-time brand ambassador approached our CEO Ginny Seymour to co-create her own collection, we we're excited to break more new ground together. Read more about Lucy's inspiration behind the collection.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE MEMORY FROM THE CO-CREATION PROCESS?

Definitely just the initial meeting that I had, the PowerPoint, not realising how many different styles there were and being drawn to specific ones. Also, defining what my style is, going through that whole process, was an eye-opener. Before it was like, “Oh, I like this,” and “I like that”, but I wasn't really aware of the cut or the colours as much. I can define my style in clothes, what really fits me, and what I like the look of.

WHAT’S THE STORY BEHIND HAVING THE BEANIE HATS IN TWO COLOURS?

The Ada beanies were originally part of the collection. I thought it would be nice to add a pop of colour, because that's part of my [fashion] journey, and a hat is an easy way to start. We added the beanie in this light blue colour which matches the collection. Then I thought, it's an iconic thing for football supporters to wear hats to games in the autumn and winter. So I asked if we could make a Chelsea blue one, just to have that link back to football and what I'm doing in London. So we've got the lighter blue one and the Chelsea blue one coming soon.

WHICH PIECES EMBODY YOU THE MOST?

The Bronte shirt and Aubrey trousers. These are probably the pieces that I felt like I had the most input in making sure they were how I wanted them. They can be smart but still comfortable, and you could still wear them in a comfortable setting. I keep saying that you could wear these trousers walking the dog, but equally to an office or a fancy event, because of the waistband and they're comfy. So they could be styled in so many different ways, and that suits me. In my life. I'm not really one thing, but I like being able to feel comfortable but smart at the same time.

HOW HAVE YOU ENSURED THIS COLLECTION IS AS INCLUSIVE AND EMPOWERING AS POSSIBLE?

The collection feels quite inclusive and especially empowering for women, because of the fits specifically. For me, it’s really important in fashion to make sure you have stuff that fits right, that makes you look good, but also comfortable. Initially, the reason behind my collaboration with ALIGNE was the clothes: I felt I looked good, smart, empowered, but I also felt really comfortable.

WHY DIDN’T YOU INCLUDE A DRESS OR A SKIRT?

There was originally a skirt but I personally prefer trousers, especially when thinking about this collection – I want to be wearing it every day. What do I wear every day? Not skirts necessarily and I'm really happy with how it turned out.

WHERE DOES THIS LUCY BRONZE X ALIGNE COLLECTION RANK AMONG YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS?

That’s a difficult question to answer. I can't rank this the same as my football accomplishments, as they're such different areas. But I rate it quite highly because having my own collection in fashion with clothing was never something I dreamt of. Whereas I dream of playing football and winning trophies.

WALK US THROUGH YOUR PERFECT DAY WEARING YOUR COLLECTION.

I walk the dog most mornings, maybe grab a coffee, so that would be nice in the Cole jacket, nice and cosy when it's cold outside, nice and cosy. Then I am off to training and I'm thinking of a little set, something easy to put on, the Roberta polo and Lucia trousers, my namesake as well, and comfy while being stylish. Then going out for dinner with some of the girls later, maybe a leather piece. Either the Alba shirt or the black leather Frank t-shirt I really like with a nice pair of trousers.

WHAT ELSE DO YOU HOPE PEOPLE FEEL AND TAKE AWAY FROM THIS COLLECTION?

We've already spoken about being empowered, and that's important to me, but I also hope that people are inspired by seeing the collection. That it helps them find their place in fashion or in football, or in anything else they have a passion for. Fashion was never somewhere I thought I had a place, and I found that place working with ALIGNE. Go out and try something new too – I feel like that's what I've done by creating this collection.
